In Art History class I read about the balancing of vertical and horizontal and diagonal force in two dimensional art. “Strips 2” was an attempt to create balance from the color blocks I got by making strips out of photographs I had taken of the collages that I had made of the Female Form Frozen. Some of the influence of Op Art remains in this piece, but the balancing of forces was what I was trying to achieve.
The strips of film I was using displayed interesting texture, contrasting the leaves and grass stalks and smooth surfaces not just the color. I still was concerned about using recognizable faces from the collage images but I hadn’t gotten up the courage to actually risk copyright infringement lawsuits.
